The Urban Truant RIB Club is owned and managed by Urban Truant, a successful Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre based at Swanwick Marina on the River Hamble. In addition to our water-based experiences, we also deliver theory courses through our advanced online portal. Sailing Course Online enables students to learn at their own pace with our easy-to-use instructional courses. Work on the latest module anytime, anywhere. And as a Urban Truant RIB Club member you are entitled to generous discounts to all of our Sailing Course Online courses, enabling you to brush up on your theory skills and be confident with your navigation out there on the water.

Our Story

Urban Truant is a leading RYA training centre based at Swanwick Marina on the busy River Hamble. If you’re thinking about getting away from your desk and doing something more exciting instead, then we have the experience for you! On the water, online or ashore, we never compromise on quality and our friendly knowledgeable skippers and instructors are with you during every step of your learning experience. RIB Club further extends our ethos of going AWOL from your desk - offering flexible and affordable access to a fleet of fast, safe, exciting powerboats. Being a truant from the daily grind has never been more fun!


  • Swanwick Marina

    Swanwick Marina

    As a member of the RIB Club, you become a berth holder at Swanwick Marina. When you get the keys to the RIB, a key fob will be attached. This will give you access to the showers and toilets in the berth-holder facilities, should you need them before or after your trip. As a berth holder, you’re also entitled to visit other marinas that are part of the Premier Marinas chain. Gosport Marina is the closest – where you can enjoy a short-stay berth giving you to opportunity to explore the local area, including taking the ferry to Gunwharf Quays.

    Urban Truant's RYA Training Centre is metres away from where you pick up your RIB, making any training course easy to get to. Should you need to do a practical RYA course, such as your Powerboat Level II, you'll spend some of your time in the classroom, before heading out to the RIB for some practical experience.

    Urban Truant runs a full schedule of classroom-based dates for the RYA First Aid course. Our practical courses often also involve some time in the classroom, including RYA Day Skipper, RYA Yachtmaster, RYA Powerboat Level 2, RYA Advanced Powerboat, RYA Motor Cruisers. We also regularly hold SRC Assessments for those wishing to obtain their VHF marine radio licence.
